Cybercrime is increasingly profitable, with criminals becoming more sophisticated and widespread. No industry is safe from cybercriminals, which makes cybersecurity one of the fastest-growing career paths for many students today. Jobs can be found across government agencies, and public or private organizations, and a good place to start is with a math education.
Cybersecurity careers can span multiple specialties, from those that analyze threats and test systems for vulnerabilities, to others that educate employees on best practices. Nearly every organization, regardless of size, will have some need for cybersecurity to keep their information safe. Students who want to pursue a cybersecurity career will often need to undergo complex training, and a background in math can help set them up for success.

A math education provides more than knowledge of numbers and formulas. It gives students a unique set of skills to think critically about problems and analyze different patterns of data. Trigonometry, calculus, and other advanced math specialties can prepare a student for the many challenges of working in cybersecurity and protecting organizations from various threats.
Intrusion prevention is an important aspect of cybersecurity, and an analyst might be responsible for continuously checking a system for vulnerabilities and other security gaps. Someone who studied statistical math would likely have the skills needed to analyze large sums of data and to provide an accurate assessment of where a cybercriminal is likely to target.
